BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE
daytime and evening courses
General information about all our basic photography courses
The basic photography course is for anyone who is interested in photography. After this course you will be able to make better quality photos, you can edit them, you understand the digital camera technology and therefore the capabilities of your camera better, you’ll learn about analogue photography; black and white film developing and printing.
The basic course is the ideal stepping-stone to our follow-up training. Students who have passed the Basic Course succesfully can start the Full 3-year Program (training to professional photographer). It is also possible to follow parts of the basic course until you have reached your desired level of training. (camera technique + digital or camera technique + analog).
There are intensive summer/Winter basic courses (5 days in a row), courses on Friday, Sunday daytime (7 days).

I just finished the beginner’s digital 3 day course. I have to say this is by far the best beginners course I’ve done (and I have done a few). All the confusing technical terms and functions (and their relationship to each other) are explained in a straightforward way – we practiced until we all understood. In just 3 days I learnt much more than I ever expected to and not a single minute was wasted or unnecessary. The course structure has a good combination of discussion, demonstration and doing. And because it’s packed into 3 intensive days – I learnt and remembered everything much better than on the longer spread out courses I have taken. I left inspired and itching to do more. I just started the F3Y Course in September 2012.
Liza Brouwer:
After having gone though the three days Beginners Digital Course, I feel like I have entered a new world! Taking pictures for me were always just the acts of “zoom” and “click” and since I bought a camera that can do more, I wanted to know more. The course was very well constructed and although there was a lot of technical information, the way it was presented by the teacher was down to earth and a lot of fun! I really recommend this to anyone who wants to make a start towards doing more with digital photography and photoshop.
Nardus Lamprecht:
I’ve been interested in doing a photography course for a while now and was delighted to find a course (in English!!) here in Amsterdam. After completing the beginners course in Digital and Analogue photography I can honestly say “I am hooked for life” I found the quality of teaching to be of the highest standard and I never thought it was possible to learn so much about photography in such a short space of time and in a very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. I would highly recommend the FOTOfactory to any aspiring photographers!
Aravind Sakthivel:
After buying a DSLR, we normally try to learn it our-self and finally will be a point where you feel you miss something, a professional touch or professional guidance. I too had the same; myself using a DSLR in auto mode with default camera setting did not make effective use of Camera nor my photography skills. Fotofactory was one stop shop for my questions. Professional teaching. Practical examples made the course easy for beginers too. Highly qualified instructors and sharp subject matter, pleasant friendly teaching made it a very good work learning week. Fotofactory is vanilla available for foreinegers, expats I English spoken curriculum. Thanks for intenstive training and making me take off program mode from my camera!! Regards
Tze Moi:
It is comforting to know how much I don’t know and to discover the art of photography all over again. It is a good experience and with lots of fun and pleasure! Our teacher is a real photographer, by heart for sure and this is the most important factor for a photographer. I have been wondering, if adding more theoretical structure to Day 1 – About Camera; will kill the joy and fun of the course. {I thought – and have some idea on how to add ‘structure’ to the theory on camera.} I am looking forward to spending more time at the school starting September for the Full 3-year Course.
Mara Bouman:
I flew nine hours over the Atlantic from Sint Maarten to join this course “BPC.” I have no regrets, I have learnt a lot as a beginner and I am now enthusiastic to put it into practice. We had a very good teacher who demonstrated a lot of patience that made us all and me in particular feel very comfort. I enjoyed the courses very MUCH!
Astrid Dalsgaard:
Stayed in AM 10 days to follow the entire course (analogue and digital) and loved it. Tried out things that I have dreamt of for years – especially analogue photography. I now know that I will pursue visual anthropology and am on the look out for and old Pentax and a darkroom in Copenhagen. Perhaps also find time to show Photoshop who is boss behind the screen! Enjoyed it a lot and will seriously think about coming back for shorter courses in the future!
Jeanette Lin:
First of all, I would like to thank the FOTOfactory for introducing me to the world of photography. Secondly, the intensive 3 days of basic digital photography course is the best ever, now I’ve knowledge of photography, and how to use my camera. I highly recommend the course to everyone who really wants to know how to operate their digital camera. I was happy I did this, and hope will come back again!
