The Basic Photography Course
This is the complete course for learning basic photography.
Designed to give you the necessary information and help needed to become confident with your digital or film camera.
All aspects of basic photography are covered including technical and compositional know-how and skills.
This course is for beginners or photographers who are moving from film to digital.
It aims to demystify your digital camera and the basics Adobe Photoshop by concentrating on practical, real world problems, enabling you to shoot more and worry less. During the course picture taking sessions are included.
The first lesson you will concentrate on the camera, aiming to give you the confidence that you are getting the most from it. Topics are : Exposure, Iso, depth of field, movement, composition. Lesson 2-5 you will learn the fundamentals of analogue photography. This intensive course introduces students to the fundamentals of black & white printing.
Taking place in our professionally-equipped darkroom,
the course runs over 4 evenings. Lesson 6-9 you will learn the fundamentals of digital photography. You will work with Photoshop CS(3) and learn to basics of producing and manipulate images. We will also take you on location and start our project on Street Photography. The last day you finish your portfolio and present it to the other students and teacher(s). Click here for the program.
The Darkroom course (part I of the Basic Photography Course)
This intensive course introduces students to the fundamentals of black & white printing.
Taking place in our professionally-equipped darkroom,
the course runs over 5 evenings.
You will will be taught how to develop your own films.
With these negatives you enterthe black & white darkroom and learn the principles of black & white printing.
When to use a high speed film or a good portrait film will be explaned and demonstrated at location. At the end it results in a good portfolio with excellent black & white prints.
This course serves as an excellent grounding for participants who will then have the confidence to shoot on B&W film,

The Digital Photography course (part II of the Basic Photography Course)
This course is for beginners or photographers who are moving from film to digital. It aims to demystify your digital camera and the basics Adobe Photoshop CS(3) by concentrating on practical, real world problems, enabling you to shoot more and worry less.
The first evening we will concentrate on the camera, aiming to give you the confidence that you are getting the most from it.
Later on you will get an introduction to Photoshop CS3 as used by photographers to produce digital files and prints to a professional level. It will also be a good grounding if you want to move on to a more advanced Photoshop course.
