English Photography Education at the FOTOfactory

Photography is an extremely diverse medium. Chemical and digital photography currently live alongside with each other and often merge.
We run courses and workshops for beginners and experienced photographers alike.
Five day workshops and intensive courses lasting several weeks cover areas from studio lighting for beginners to digital capture with camera movements for professionals.

BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY COURSES

3 months or 5 days

The Darkroom Course introduces students to the fundamentals of black & white printing in our fully equipped Professional Darkroom.
Our Digital Imaging Courses start from introductory Adobe Photoshop CS5 courses through to advanced Photoshop CS5, Bridge CS5 and Lightroom 3 courses covering colour management, workflow, compositing and retouching.
The Basic Photography Course is an ideal course to learn more about your camera, composition. In this course the Darkroom Course and the Digital Imaging Course are combined.

We offer this Course also as a special SUMMERCOURSE. This SUMMERCOURSE takes 5 days and is an ideal course to learn more about your camera, composition, Amsterdam and how to start creating your own portfolio.

Our courses are presented in a relaxed atmosphere where student involvement is encouraged, feedback is important, and the instructors are always available to answer questions. All our courses include supervised photography on location in or near Amsterdam.

I just finished the beginner’s digital 3 day course. I have to say this is by far the best beginners course I’ve done (and I have done a few). All the confusing technical terms and functions (and their relationship to each other) are explained in a straightforward way – we practiced until we all understood. In just 3 days I learnt much more than I ever expected to and not a single minute was wasted or unnecessary. The course structure has a good combination of discussion, demonstration and doing. And because it’s packed into 3 intensive days – I learnt and remembered everything much better than on the longer spread out courses I have taken. I left inspired and itching to do more. I’ll definitely be back for the advanced course.

After having gone though the three days Beginners Digital Course, I feel like I have entered a new world! Taking pictures for me were always just the acts of “zoom” and “click” and since I bought a camera that can do more, I wanted to know more. After buying a DSLR, we normally try to learn it our-self and finally will be a point where you feel you miss something, a professional touch or professional guidance. I too had the same; myself using a DSLR in auto mode with default camera setting did not make effective use of Camera nor my photography skills. Fotofactory was one stop shop for my questions. It is comforting to know how much I don’t know and to discover the art of photography all over again. It is a good experience and with lots of fun and pleasure! Our teacher is a real photographer, by heart for sure and this is the most important factor for a photographer. I have been wondering, if adding more theoretical structure to Day 1 – About Camera; will kill the joy and fun of the course. {I thought – and have some idea on how to add ‘structure’ to the theory on camera.} I am looking forward to spending more time at the school starting September for the Full 3-year Course.

Stayed in AM 10 days to follow the entire course (analogue and digital) and loved it. Tried out things that I have dreamt of for years – especially analogue photography. I now know that I will pursue visual anthropology and am on the look out for and old Pentax and a darkroom in Copenhagen. Perhaps also find time to show Photoshop who is boss behind the screen! FULL 3 YEAR COURSE

3 years

In autumn 2012 we are planning to start a 3 year course taught in English. Starting September 2012.
The first year will include 40 lessons in Amsterdam.
The second year will also include 40 lessons in Amsterdam.
The third year is your last year in which you will select a specialisation. For instance Fashion, Portrait, etc.
It is possible to take the third year even if you live abroad.
